Police: Dad leaves toddlers in car while gun shopping

Posted

HOUSTON, Texas (KHOU) -  A Texas father is in trouble with the law after he stopped to shop for a gun and left his two toddlers in the car -- for nearly an hour.

However, 21-year-old Gage Eason promises that he is still a good dad.

"I love my kids and there's nothing more important than my kids," Eason told KHOU-TV's Courtney Zubowski. "People make mistakes every day. Mine just happened to be shown on camera."

Eason claims he had a hard time judging how much time had passed and did not realize that he had been in the gun store for 50 minutes.

Hailie Eason, his wife who is pregnant with baby number three, showed up after the police were called.

When asked if she was mad at her husband, she fired back that of course she's angry. "My kids have been ripped from me. He's never made a mistake like this before."

Child Protective Services did not immediately take away their kids.  After a visit last Monday, caseworkers removed them on Tuesday.

Eason could face criminal charges.

"I don't think there should be criminal charges," said Julie Ketterman, one of Eason's attorneys. "There was nothing maliciously done here. There was nothing so outrageous that this father should be ripped from the family, put in jail and the family broken up."
