RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - A group of VCU students is building a community garden to help provide hungry Richmonders with fresh vegetables.

Members of Green Unity spent Sunday building a community garden at 10th and Leigh Streets in Richmond. When the garden opens later this summer, Green Unity hopes to provide produce to the Central Virginia Food Bank and Richmond-area soup kitchens.

The group hopes as its garden grows, so to does the number of volunteers working on the project.

"I talk to people all the time that are like, 'I had no idea this was happening.' I think that will just change as we grow," said volunteer Alex Little.
