HENRICO, Va. (WTVR) The campaign may have launched on April Fool’s Day but police say it is no joke.

April is Distracted Driving Awareness month, and some local police are stepping up their patrols.

They are trying to crack down on what is already a deadly trend.

Henrico police officers will be extra vigilant this month, trying to drive home the message that distracted driving can be deadly.

The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles just released numbers related to distracted driving from 2010.

The numbers connect 26,000 crashes, 122 of those fatal, and nearly 15,000 injured, connected with distracted driving.
