Man charged with attempted capital murder of officer

HOPEWELL, Va. (WTVR) –Hopewell detectives attempt to arrest a wanted man and a violent struggle ensued, with one officer stabbed in the head and neck.

Hopewell Police Detective Richard Wade said he spotted Christopher J. Case, on the Hopewell top ten wanted list for two outstanding capiases. Wade called for a back-up officer.

Then, when Detective Wade attempted to place the offender under arrest he said the suspect attacked him, with a knife.

Police said that Case cut and stabbed Detective Wade in the head and neck area with the knife.

Officers disarmed and cuffed Case.

Detective Wade was treated at a local hospital and released with non-life threatening injuries.

Case was charged with the Attempted Capital Murder of a Police Officer, Malicious Wounding, Felony Obstruction of Justice, and the two outstanding warrants were served.

Case is being held without bond at Riverside Regional Jail.
