RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Thomas Victory used to work with Hazel Jackson, the Varina woman who was stabbed to death in her home on Monday night.

Jackson’s boyfriend, Freddie Lee Cephas, is charged with her murder.

Jackson worked for Victory at the Urban League of Greater Richmond several years ago.

When Victory heard about her passing, he instantly knew what he wanted to do to honor Jackson’s memory.

Victory had swapped emails with Sgt. Carol Adams with the Richmond Police Department about used cell phone donations.

Since 2005, Adams has been collecting used cell phones that she then gives to Verizon, who in turn sells them and gives the proceeds to domestic violence awareness groups.

Adams has raised over $70,000 since the program began for organizations across Virginia.

Currently, she has a goal to collect 2,000 cell phones by April 16, which is Earth Day.

Victory, the President and CEO of Urban League of Greater Richmond, will now collect cell phones as well to help Adams reach her goal.

If you would like to donate used cell phones, cell phone batteries, and chargers to the Carol Adams HopeLine Community Outreach and Prevention Program, contact Sgt. Carol Adams with the Richmond Police Department at (804) 646-4069.

You can also drop off these devices at any Richmond Police facility or at the Urban League of Greater Richmond at 1420 Hull St., Richmond, VA 23224.
