SUSSEX COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – Firefighters have contained a brush pile fire at the McGill Sussex compost manufacturing plant on Beefsteak Road in Sussex County, Virginia, reported CBS 6 senior reporter Wayne Covil.

Firefighters were called to plant early Friday morning when drivers saw flames and smoke through the woods. Sussex County Sheriff Raymond Bell told Covil four or five fire trucks responded to the scene.

Bell said despite smoke and flames, the fire is way off the road and “there is no danger to the community.”

A spokesman for McGill said the company would let the fire burns itself out. Smoke may be visible for the next few days.
