RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Powerful storms that rolled through the area Wednesday night hit one Southside Richmond neighbodhood particulary hard.
John and Jane Guyton, who were working to cleanup the mess Thursday, said they heard loud noises as the storm hit.
One said it sounded like and explosion, while the other said it sounded more like a train.
In just a matter of seconds, the couple had a giant hole in their house.
The tree that fell, not only took out a portion of the roof, attic and bedroom walls, but destroyed the couple's car and van, which were crushed under the tree's weight.
The Guyton's said while the damage will take time to repair, they know they're blessed because it could have turned out much worse, considering that they were inside the house, when the tree fell.
Neighbors said they were shocked, not only by the damage to the Guyton's home, but by the fact the couple's home the only one damaged during the storm. They were also the only folks that lost a tree in the neighborhood during the storm.
Dominion Virginia Power said the storm caused about 15,000 customers to lose power. Only a few hundred customers were without power by mid-morning.
