Families of former Virginia Tech students ask for less money

BLACKSBURG, VA (WTVR) – Less than a month after the families of Erin Peterson and Julia Pryde learned they were awarded $4 million dollars each for the death of the former Virginia Tech students, they are now asking for less money.

The parents won a wrongful death lawsuit against the university, but how much money will the families receive?

Virginia law puts a $100,000 cap on claims against the state.

Now attorneys are trying to circumvent the law, by trying to get $2 million dollars for each family from the state’s risk management fund.
