RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – The following is a statement released by VCU athletics this afternoon in response to several media reports about VCU possibly moving to the Atlantic 10 conference in the near future:

“VCU is a proud member of the CAA,” Director of Athletics Norwood Teague said. “There have been no discussions with any other conferences concerning changing out affiliation. Contrary to media reports, the VCU Board of Visitors has not met about nor discussed conference realignment.”

Under the direction of Head Coach Shaka Smart, the Rams return all but one player from last year’s NCAA Tournament team. VCU will enter the 2012-13 campaign looking to extend the fifth-longest active sellout streak in the country with 18 consecutive capacity crowds at the Verizon Wireless Arena at the Stuart C. Siegel Center.

CBSSports.com published a story on Sunday that said VCU, George Mason and Butler were all in talks with the A-10 about joining that leauge.
