RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – A slow-moving low pressure system will gradually track across Virginia through Sunday.  With the storm lingering in the area, occasional showers and storms will occur both today and Sunday.

There will be many dry hours this weekend — even with some breaks in the clouds — in between the waves of showers and storms.

There is a slight risk that a few isolated storms may get strong to severe today, mainly in the afternoon and early evening.  The primary threats would be large hail and high wind gusts.  Although possible, the threat for tornadoes is extremely low.

Also of note is that the thunderstorms will not move very quickly, so some areas could get heavy rainfall over the course of an hour.  Areas that see repeated storms will pick up a few inches of rainfall.

The storm will break down a bit on Sunday, so the coverage, duration and intensity of the rain will diminish a bit.

We will continue to have further updates through the weekend.
