COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. (WTVR)- Colonial Heights Police were shocked to find that a suspect they apprehended Sunday night for an attempted carjacking had just been released from jail only hours earlier.
Sgt. Robert Ruxer with CHPD tells CBS 6 they responded to the Sheetz at 2711 Conduit Rd. at 8:00 Sunday night for reports of an attempted robbery. Upon arrival, they found a female victim who said she had been approached from behind in the parking lot by a white male. She said the man claimed to have a weapon and demanded the keys to her vehicle.
The victim screamed and managed to get away, and the suspect fled on foot toward Temple Ave. That suspect was quickly located by officers in the woods behind the store, and identified by the victim.
That suspect, police say, is Mark Daniel Sharp, 43, of Powhatan, Va. Sharp had just been released from the Riverside Regional Jail earlier that morning. He is now back at that jail, facing charges of attempted carjacking, and is being held without bond.
