RICHMOND,Va. (WTVR) - As the temperature climbs and summer approaches, many folks are starting to think about vacation plans.

But rising fuel prices could affect just how far you're able to get away from home.

In fact, the rising prices are also forcing up the cost of airline tickets, which are higher now than the same time last year.

Rumy Mohta, the owner of Richmond Travel, said that in the last two months he has  seen fewer people buying airline tickets. Additionally, he said some are changing their vacation plans to get more for their money.

In some cases, that includes not heading to the port in Miami.

"A whole bunch of people are booking cruises, that are closer to the ports here in either Baltimore or Norfolk or South Carolina," said Mohta. "Which makes it very easy for them to just drive there, rather than fly."

Last year, a round trip flight from Richmond to New Orleans in April, with hotel accommodations for six nights, cost $1744.68. Right now, a similar flight and accommodations would cost $2593.02.
