Genito Road bridge construction starts Monday

Posted

Genito Road (Chesterfield) –Virginia Department of Transportation with an update on the Genito Road bridge construction, detours and delays.

From the VDOT press release:

Starting Monday, crews will begin construction to replace the Genito Road bridge over the Swift Creek Reservoir located between Woolridge Road and Otterdale Road.

Flaggers will direct traffic over the bridge from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. A temporary signal has been installed at the bridge to safely move drivers through the work zone. This signal will flash yellow through Tuesday. Drivers are encouraged to slow down and use caution when approaching the construction area.

Starting Wednesday, the temporary signal will switch to alternating traffic over the bridge. Drivers will use one lane to cross the bridge. This signal will operate 24 hours a day throughout construction. In addition, the speed limit through the work zone will be reduced from 45 mph to 35 mph.

The bridge replacement is expected to be completed in December 2012.

To avoid delays, drivers can use Otterdale Road to Old Hundred Road to Watermill Parkway.
