Monday winter advisory for some areas

Posted

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR)--There will be a few showers east of I-95 this evening.  Skies will be partly cloudy elsewhere before clouds increasing tonight.

A winter weather advisory has been issued for parts of the area Monday morning.

A clipper-type system will track through the area the first half of Monday with some light snow, possibly mixing with some rain.

Snow will start well west of I-95 around 4-5 a.m., then reach the metro area 6-8 a.m..

Warmer ground temperatures will limit accumulation.  There is a potential for an inch or two south of I-64, mostly on grassy surfaces.

Some slick spots are possible on bridges, overpasses & ramps. Over 2″ will fall in the mountains. Temperatures will warm well above freezing by midday, so any accumulations will melt.

High pressure will provide nice weather from Tuesday through Thursday.  After highs in the mid 40s Monday, highs will jump into the 50s Tuesday, 60s Wednesday, and will be near 70° Thursday & Friday.  The next chance of rain will be Friday afternoon.
