HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – An early morning fire displaced 22 people Saturday morning at the Newbridge Village Apartments along the 300 block of Newbridge Rd. in Henrico County.

Everyone in the apartment building managed to escape the fire, however three children were transported to VCU Medical Center after inhaling smoke, Henrico Fire Capt. James Mellon told CBS 6. Mellon said their injures are considered non-life threatening.

Shortly after 3:00 a.m., Henrico firefighters responded to a call of heavy fire coming from the first floor of an apartment building, Mellon said. The flames reached up to the second floor. Firefighters brought the fire under control by 3:38 a.m..

The Red Cross is helping people who lived in eight of the units.

Henrico fire investigators are still working to find what started the fire.
