RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Army Specialist Diamond Wilson, a former Richmond resident, is now reunited with her missing dog thanks to a Good Samaritan and a microchip ID.

Wilson was driving from Richmond to New York, where she now lives, when she was involved in a car accident on Interstate 95. The pit bull terrier mix, Roxanne, escaped the vehicle during the commotion.

“I never thought I would see her again,” said Wilson, in a media release.

Fortunately, Wilson had Roxanne microchipped when she was adopted 11 months ago. That move helped reunite the two, after a week apart.

Roxanne was found near Chamberlayne Avenue and brought to Richmond Animal Care and Control. The staff checked the dog and reported the id number to 24 PetWatch.

Wilson called 24 PetWatch, “just in case,” she said.

“I don’t know who was happier, Diamond Wilson, or the dog,” said Richard Stewart, acting shelter supervisor, in a media release.

Unfortunately for Wilson and Roxanne, the story has taken another twist. Wilson, who served six years in Iraq, was just deployed for three-years, to Korea. Her son will be going with her, but the family pet can’t come, said Wilson.

Tonight we speak with Wilson about Roxanne, and will have a full report for you on the 11 p.m. news.
