WEATHER: Tuesday morning discussion

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Black ice and frost have developed in central Virginia overnight with temperatures in the 20s, clear skies, and calm conditions. After this cold, slippery start to the morning, we’ll end the day ten degrees warmer than yesterday with highs in the 50s. The warm-up continues through Thursday, with highs reaching the 70s! Snowpack in the Commonwealth will quickly melt away in the face of these warming temperatures. Overnight lows will not freeze again until Sunday.

Although a couple of weak upper disturbances will pass over our region this week, none should bring precipitation. A stronger storm system will bring a good chance of rain to our area on Friday, with colder air sweeping in behind the system for the weekend.  The strong pressure difference across Virginia associated with this system will create windy conditions for the area Friday night into early Saturday.  We’ll see a couple of other systems affect us between now and the first few days of March, but no particular system is showing a strong signal for any significant wintry weather. Right now, they all look like rain systems.  Click here for weather updates on my Facebook page, and you can go here for the latest weather blog entry.
