HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – A Richmond woman will serve time in prison for stealing from a Virginia church.
Debora Morris, 60, was sentenced to five years in prison with all but nine months suspended during a sentencing hearing Wednesday morning in Henrico County Court.
Morris had previously pleaded guilty to embezzling more than $40,000 from the St. Paul’s Baptist Church credit union. [Read more]
Last Fall, church leaders told CBS 6 that between June 2008 and April 2011, an audit revealed suspicious financial activity. Morris was the president and CEO of the church’s credit union at the time.
“She’s always greeting everyone and constantly interacting with the members. It’s really a big shock,” church member Joe Wortham told CBS 6 last Fall.
No one who came to court to support Morris Wednesday wanted to speak to the CBS 6 photojournalist covering the case.
