RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – The Richmond Flying Squirrels hope the creation of a new citizen advocacy group will encourage regional action to fund and build a new ballpark on Boulevard in time for the team’s 2015 baseball season.

Squirrels Vice President Todd “Parney” Parnell announced the creation of Ballpark Nutz Tuesday morning.

Parnell said over the coming weeks and months the group will reveal details on how it plans to reach a proposed $50 million goal to build a new ballpark.

The stadium would not only house the Richmond Flying Squirrels, but could serve as a home field for the VCU Rams and other local college and high school teams.

“Our two years in Richmond tell us that this is a terrific sports town and a great place to live,” said Parnell. “We also know that we are not alone in believing that the region deserves a first-class ballpark, one that reflects Richmond’s standing as the capital of the Commonwealth.”
