MECHANICSVILLE, Va. (WTVR) – A vigil was held Tuesday evening for twin sisters in Hanover killed by their father in a murder-suicide over the weekend.

Family and friends gathered to remember Caroline and Madison King outside the home on Wynbrook Lane in Mechanicsville.

The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office said the twin 3 year olds were found dead in Robert King’s home Saturday afternoon.

The two twins suffered cuts to their necks, said spokesman Sergeant Chris Whitley, in a release.

Sgt. Whitley said that King also hooked up his van to the home to send exhaust fumes into the house.

According to the Chief Medical Examiner, King and his daughters could have died from either the cuts or the carbon monoxide that built up in the home or a combination of both.Court records show King and his estranged wife were involved in a custody battle.
