Man pleads guilty to incident on CARE bus

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Officials said a man pleaded pleaded guilty to assault and battery charges after an incident on a GRTC Carevan back in September.

Sean M. Malone, of the 10400 block of Windingridge Circle of Richmond, had been charged with sexual battery by force or helplessness.

Malone will be due back for another hearing in one year.

Officials said that if Malone has no contact with the victim, exhibits good behavior and goes through the recommended mental health and treatment, the charges could be dropped or nolle prossed next year.

A 20-year-old female victim told officers that she was sexually assaulted by the 48-year-old while riding on one of GRTC’s CARE transport buses.

The victim said she was sitting at the back of the bus when a man moved from his seat and started touching her legs, her breasts and her vaginal area.

Additionally, the victim told police Malone made several sexually explicit statements.

The incident was captured on the bus’ surveillance video.
