SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a car crash involving a county high school student.

In an email to CBS6, Captain Mike Harvey said Shawn Michael Woodson II, 16, suffered a “major life-threatening” injury after driving off the road and into a tree Sunday afternoon.

Harvey said Woodson, who attends Spotsylvania High School, was found outside a crashed 1994 black Chevrolet Camaro. Woodson was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the car as a result of the crash, according to Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office crash reconstruction specialists.

The accident occurred around 4:00 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Partlow Road and Winding Road.

Harvey said speed appeared to be a factor in the crash.

Woodson is listed in critical condition at Mary Washington Hospital, according to a release from the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office.
