SUSSEX COUNTY, VA (WTVR) - A 12-year-old is just one of three victims of hunting accidents that occurred across central Virginia on Saturday.
All three are expected to make a full recovery and all three shootings are now under investigation with Game & Inland Fisheries Conservation Police.
The Sussex County shooting happened around four p.m., on private property off of Cabin Point Road.
Sergeant Tim Worrel says the 12-year-old was with a group hunting deer, when several got between him and the shooter.
“The pellet did not penetrate the skull, it grazed the skin and left about a four inch gash in his forehead” said Worrrel, as he stood on a dirt road near where the shooting took place.
The young man was in a clearing when the shooting happened.
The Sussex shooting is similar to what happened Saturday in New Kent County, when deer got between a 34-year-old victim and the shooter, who was about 200 feet away.
The victim in that case was hit by three pellets from a shotgun blast.
In Dinwiddie County, the victim was hit by one pellet in the abdomen, and taken by Life EVAC helicopter to VCU Medical Center.
All three victims are expected to make a full recovery and all three incidents are under investigation.
