UPDATE: Couple cleared on child rape charges
HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – A stepfather and mother are in jail, accused of sexually assaulting their young daughter for several years, according to Henrico police.
The alleged victim, now 10 years old, told officers in August that her stepfather had sexually assaulted her over a four-year period starting in 2004.
However, officers said the alleged victim later told her biological father that she had been sexually assaulted by both her stepfather and her mother starting when she was four.
When the child allegedly told her mother what happened, police said she too began sexually assaulting the child.
In addition, police said once the pair separated that the mother continued to abuse the girl until she moved to Maryland with her father.
As a result, police said 42-year-old Danielle Whitaker, of the 9300 block of Silver Stream Lane in Henrico, and 30-year-old Bernard Willis, of the 0 block of Laguna Road in Palmyra, have been charged with sexual assault.
Officials said Whitaker was eventually arrested after she fled the area.
Willis was arrested on Nov. 3 by the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office.
