Has co-authored 20 articles in various Scientific Journals in Medical Research. He has been married to Dorothy M. Law for 52 years, and they have raised four outstanding children, all graduates of Richmond Public Schools. Dr. Melvin D. Law, Jr., a MCV/VCU graduate, is an orthopedic surgeon; Dr. Mark S. Law, also graduate of MCV/VCU, is an ophthalmologist; Debra Law George, another graduate of MCV/VCU, holds a master’s degree in health administration; and Myron Law, a graduate of UVA, is an information systems specialist.

Educational accomplishments include a BS Chemistry Major; Biology and Mathematics Minors from West Virginia State College; George Washington University, Graduate Study in Biochemistry.

After 41 years of service with The Department of Veterans Affairs, Mr. Law retired in 1998. At McGuire Veterans Medical Center, held positions as Equal Employment Manager, 1986-1998; Director of Public Affairs, 1988-1996; and Research Biochemist, 1964-1986; Research Biochemist, Newton D. Baker Veterans Medical Center, Martinsburg, West Virginia, 1957-1964.

Many of his community involvements include, Community Advisory Member (CAC) for over ten years; President, Richmond NAACP Branch; Member, Superintendent Search Committee for Richmond Public Schools; Member, Virginians Associated for Relief from Sickle Cell Anemia, Inc. (VARSCA); Former President, Richmond Crusade of Voters, 1999-2001; Former Chairman of Richmond School Board, 1985, 1994-1998; Appointed to two terms on the Richmond School Board (1983-1986 & 1986-1989); Elected to Richmond School Board, 1994-1996 and re-elected 1996-1998; Past Member, State Board of Community Colleges, 1980-1984; Former President of the Richmond Council of Parent Teacher Associations; Charter member of the Board of Directors, J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, 1972-1980; Founding member and Vice President, Housing Opportunities Mad Equal (HOME), 1972.

Special Honors received included Humanitarian Award from the National Conference on Community and Justice, October 2003; Outstanding Performance Awards for each of 10 years, McGuire Veterans Medical Center, 1987-1997; Appointed by Governor John Dalton to the State Board for Community Colleges, 1980-1984; Appointed by Governor Linwood Holton to the Williamsburg Conference on Court Reform, 1972.
