After Governor Bob McDonnell announced on Wednesday a new policy that would automatically restore voting rights to non-violent felons who paid their debt to society, some local faith leaders are calling for the policy to go further.
Richmond Councilwoman Michelle Mosby has launched a campaign to “ban the box” on job applications that ask about prior convictions.
Convicted felons may soon get their voting rights restored faster.
Many hope their pending applications will be approved in time for them to meet the October 15 voter registration deadline.
Historically, it’s been democratic governors who have been most likely to restore the voting rights of felons.
