Maryland governor signs death penalty repeal

By a 82-56 margin, the Maryland House of Delegates voted Friday to ban the death penalty in that state. The bill now goes to the desk of Gov. Martin O’Malley, who has pledged to sign it.
There are plenty of death penalty opponents in this land. But perhaps none like Jerry Givens of Richmond.
On Tuesday, the 13th woman in U.S.history will be executed by the justice system. The last woman executed was in Virginia.
The prosecutor is expected to move forward with having the capital murder charge against Gregory Nelson, Jr., downgraded to first degree murder.
