Travis Ponton has been a member of the CBS 6 News Team since April, 2010. His work is regularly featured on wtvr.com every weekend.
Born and raised in Central Virginia, Travis is a graduate of Matoaca High School. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from Radford University, and has completed some work toward his Masters’ at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Travis’ work was first published in the Richmond Times-Dispatch when he was a teenager. It was then that he realized he had a passion for good journalism. While in college, he was a reporter/anchor for NRV News-Radford, and a radio DJ for WVRU-Radford, 89.9 FM.
In his time at CBS 6, he’s had a hand in covering some of the biggest stories our area has seen, including Hurricane Irene, the Louisa Earthquake, the snow storms of 2011, and various tornadoes. Travis has broken several stories on wtvr.com as well, including the day Robert Wood, Jr. went missing, the death of State Trooper Adam Bowen in the line of duty, and various developments in the Tameka Claiborne murder investigation.
Aside from his role at CBS 6, Travis has worked in youth sports with the YMCA of Greater Richmond for 9 years, and also coaches high school basketball and soccer. In his spare time, he enjoys staying active and playing sports, as well as spending time with his friends and brothers.
