I was born in Tacoma, Washington. My father is a retired Army Colonel, and we traveled throughout the United States and overseas. I graduated from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge in the fall of 1987 with a degree in broadcast journalism.
I started my career in radio at WJBO in Baton Rouge in February 1988. I spent a year there as an announcer and weekend news reporter for the Saturday morning program. I moved to Lafayette, Louisiana in 1989 where I accepted the position as the News Director for an AM/FM station.
While in Lafayette, I landed my first opportunity to work in television. I was hired by the independent Fox station KVHP in Lake Charles, Louisiana as a general assignment reporter and 10:00 weather anchor. I moved to Texas in August 1991 when the NBC affiliate KLSB hired me as its 5:00 news anchor.
In February of 1994, I accepted a reporter position with Austin's longtime CBS station KTBC. While there, I was promoted to weekend anchor and then main anchor. I anchored the six and ten o'clock newscasts for four years before making the move to Richmond in July 1999.
In addition to anchoring CBS 6 News at 5:00, 6:00 and 11:00, I produce a monthly report on breast health information and breast cancer called Buddy Check 6, and prepare special reports throughout the year.
I am a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc, and the Richmond Chapter of the Links Inc.
I am a recipient of the American Cancer Society's Regional Media Award for my Buddy Check 6 reports. I am a board member for the Dr. Ellen Shaw de Parades Breast Cancer Foundation which is dedicated to the early detection and cure of breast cancer. I was inducted into the National Women of Achievement Hall of Fame in Austin, Texas in 2000.
I am married to Jeff Moten and the proud mother of two sons, Miles and Pierce.
