    VUU wins CIAA Women’s Title

    The Virginia Union Lady Panthers beat Shaw University 70-66 to win the CIAA Women’s Championship for the first time since 1982.  Kiana Johnson, the reigning CIAA Player of the Year, scored 32 points and was named Tournament MVP.  Lady Walker added 23 points and 20 rebounds as she was named to the All-Tournament.  Rahni Bell was also named to the All-Tournament team.

    VUU Lady Panthers are heading to the CIAA Title Game

    For the first time since 2004, the Virginia Union Lady Panthers are in the CIAA Title Game.  Kiana Johnson, the reigning CIAA Player of the Year, scored 27 of her game high 41 points in the first half to lead three players in double figures.

    VSU advances to CIAA Title Game

    Virginia State ended a 25 year drought and advanced to the CIAA Men’s Title game after they beat Bowie St. 81-70.  Elijah Moore led three Trojans in double figures with 18 as they will play in the conference championship game for the first time since 1991 when they lost to Hampton.

    VSU Trojans advance to CIAA Semifinals

    Virginia State got a double-double from Kevin Williams, 16 points and 10 rebounds as the number one seed in the North advanced to the CIAA Semifinals after a 71-57 win over Fayetteville St. in Charlotte, NC. The Trojans held the Broncos to just 31% from the field and outrebounded them 47-37.  VSU will meet Bowie State in the semifinals.

    In the Saturday Night Sportscast, Virginia Tech won at home over Florida St. 83-73.  Seth Allen led all scorers with 23 points. Virginia State’s Men’s team won the CIAA Northern Division Title in overtime with a 66-62 win over Lincoln as they opened their brand new $84 million dollar Multi Purpose Center on campus.
