  • UVA gets bounce back win at UNC

    The Virginia Cavaliers rebounded from their loss against Duke last Saturday with a 75-64 win over 12th ranked North Carolina.  Malcolm Brogdon led the Cavs with 17.  Justin Anderson added 16 for UVA, who at 20-1, is off to their best start in three decades.  UVA shot 52% from the field for the game and held the Tar Heels to 38% shooting after halftime.     Virginia will be the center of the college football universe for five days this fall as two of the nation's most high profile college football teams take on Virginia and Virginia Tech. The Atlantic Coast Conference released its 2015 college football schedule.

  • Spiders crush Duquesne behind career-high performance from Shawn’Dre Jones

    Shawn’Dre Jones scored a career-high 27 points as Richmond beat Duquesne 86-55 at the Robins Center.  Kendall Anthony added 16 while Terry Allen chipped in with 11.  The Spiders shot a blistering 61% from the field and held the Dukes to just 40% for the game.  

  • VCU wins 12th straight, VT ends losing streak

    14th ranked VCU beat George Washington 72-48 for their 12th win in a row.  Terry Larrier led the Rams with 15.  JeQuan Lewis chipped in with 13 while Mo Alie-Cox added 10 for the Rams, who used an 18-4 run midway in the second half to blow the game open.  VCU won despite their leading scorer, Treveon Graham, scoring just seven points.  The Colonials shot just 27% percent from the field and were just 1-17 from behind the arc.  They […]

    Lane Casadonte caught up with Chesterfield’s Denny Hamlin at NASCAR’s media tour in Charlotte.  Hamlin spoke about last season being so close to winning his first ever Sprint Cup title and how 2015 will be the year of redemption.   • UVA stays undefeated with a late rally at Virginia Tech

    Number two ranked UVA rallied from 10 down midway in the second half at Virginia Tech to beat the Hokies 50-47 to improve to 19-0 on the year and 7-0 in the ACC.  The Cavaliers won their sixth in a row in the series and fifth straight at Cassell Coliseum.  The Hokies have lost seven in a row and winless in the conference at 0-6.   • CIAA holds bowling tournament in Richmond

    The CIAA wrapped up their second conference bowling event at Bowl America in Midlothian.  It was a three-day event featuring all of the schools in the conference to include Virginia State and Virginia Union.  VSU had three bowlers place in the top eight in the tournament led by Rebecca Clements, who bowled an average of 183.90.  Richmond native Shayla Lightfoot, ranked sixth in the nation from Bowie State, was second with an average of 185.  

  • Spiders can’t hold lead on the road, R-MC continues to roll at home

    The Richmond Spiders were unable to win their first true road game of the year as 22nd ranked Dayton beat them 63-60.   T.J. Cline led four Richmond players in double figures with 14.  The Spiders shot 55.6 percent in the second half but it wasn’t enough as they fell to 10-9 on the season.  It’s the fourth time in the last five road games that Richmond has lost by five or fewer points.   • Big-shot Brad receives highest honor, RMC remains unbeaten in ODAC

    Former Benedictine and VCU star Bradford Burgess will have his number 20 jersey retired by VCU on February 21st just before their game against UMass.  Burgess is 4th in school history with 1,684 points and helped lead the Rams to the Final Four in 2011.  He is just the fifth male in VCU history to have his jersey retired.   • VCU, UR and UVA win on Saturday

    VCU won their 10th straight with a 70-64 win over Duquesne.  Rams’ leading scorer Treveon Graham didn’t play after suffering a sprained ankle in the Rhode Island win.  JeQuan Lewis had a team high 16 while Melvin Johnson added 14  as the Rams improved to 5-0 in the A-10.
