    The VCU Rams won their seventh in a row overall this year after they beat Richmond 94-89 in overtime.  Je’Quan Lewis led four Rams in double figures with a career 29 points.  Korey Billbury scored 12 of his 20 points in the second half.  The Spiders were led by Shawn’Dre Jones’ 26 points.  T.J.     In the Saturday Feel Good Edition sportscast, the VCU Rams won their fourth straight 71-47 over George Mason in the A-10 opener for both teams.  Melvin Johnson had a game high 22 in the win.  Ahmed Hamdy Mohamed added a career high 16, all in the second half for the Rams, who won their fifth in a row over the Patriots.     VCU rolls past Liberty for 2nd straight win

    The VCU Rams cruised to their second straight win on Sunday after a 85-57 win over Liberty.  Melvin Johnson continued his hot shooting from behind the arc hitting four three-pointers in the 1st half in scoring a team high 15 points.   JeQuan Lewis added 14 while Jordan Burgess scored 11 in his first game back since he suffered a concussion. In the quarterfinals of the 50th Annual Benedictine Capital City Classic, Benedictine defeated Ferris 88-39.

    Frank Beamer wins final game as Virginia Tech Head Coach

    In his final game as Hokies Head Coach…Frank Beamer went out as a winner as Virginia Tech beat Tulsa 55-52 to win the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, LA.  Tech scored on seven of their first eight possessions in the first half including a 67 yard punt return for a touchdown by Greg Stroman.  The Hokies set a bowl record by scoring 45 points in the first half as they clinched their 23rd straight winning season with the win.

    St. Christopher’s and Highland Springs are champs in the TDIT

    Champions here crowned at the Siegel Center in the finals of the Times Dispatch Invitational Tournament.  On the boys’ side, St. Christopher’s won their first TDIT tournament after a 57-49 win over Deep Run.  Nick Sherod led the Saints with 20 points.  Jorge Pacheco had 17 for the Wildcats.     Both VCU and Richmond had big home wins on Tuesday.  The Rams forced 31 turnovers while Melvin Johnson scored a game high 22 points along with five 3-pointers in a 90-61 win over Buffalo to snap their three game losing streak. Johnson moved into fourth all-time in career three-pointers made with 216 and VCU as a team hit their first seven 3-pointers of the second half as they scored 50 points after the break.     The Finals of the 21st annual Times Dispatch Invitational Tournament are set.  On the boys’ side, St. Christopher’s beat Benedictine 68-62 to advance to the title game.  Nick Sherod and Alex Petrie combined to score 59 points in the win.  They will meet Deep Run in the Championship game on Tuesday night after the Wildcats topped John Marshall 63-59.  Deep Run is 7-0 on the season.     University of Richmond commit Nick Sherod scored a game high 33 as St. Christopher’s beat last year’s 3A State Champs George Wythe 75-60.  They will meet Benedictine in the tournament semifinals.  The Cadets moved to the next round after a 66-48 win over last year T-D-I-T tournament champs Highland Springs.     Highland Springs advances to State Championship Final

    Highland Springs will play for a State Championship for the first time since 1989 after a 35-10 win over Indian River.  Quarterback Juwan Carter threw for 200 yards and three touchdowns.  Greg Dortch, who is headed to Wake Forest scored three td’s, including a 74 yard kickoff return and running back D.J.
