  • Squirrels score a season-high in runs and UVA’s Justin Anderson will turn pro

    The Flying Squirrels scored a season high 10 runs in a 10-3 win over Altoona. UVA’s Justin Anderson will forgo his senior season at UVA and enter this year’s NBA draft. VCU’s Justin Tillman has asked for his release from the school and intends on transferring. Rams’ Head Coach Will Wade hires another assistant in from UTC assistant Wes Long. Former VCU Head Coach Anthony Grant returns to Florida as an assistant coach.

  • Squirrels win again at home, Wade hires his first staff member

    The Richmond Flying Squirrels won their second straight game to start the season by beating Bowie 1-0.  Jack Snodgrass struck out five over five scoreless innings. The Richmond Kickers beat Wilmington 3-0 for their first win of the season.  Jason Yeisley scored twice in the victory. New VCU Head Basketball Coach Will Wade hired his first assistant for his staff…former Manhattan Associate Head Coach Rasheen Davis.  

  • Will Wade returns to VCU, NASCAR drivers come to RIR for testing

    After two years as the Head Coach at UT-Chattanooga, Will Wade returns to VCU as the new Men’s Basketball Coach.  A crowd of over 1,200 fans and administrators were at the Siegel Center for Wade’s introductory press conference. NASCAR drivers returned to RIR to do some tire testing before the Spring race at the end of the month.

    VCU Athletic Director Ed McLaughlin has started the process to find Shaka Smart’s replacement.  CBS-6 Sports has learned that McLaughlin has interviewed two of Smart’s former assistants Mike Rhodes and Will Wade.  In his first season as Head Coach at Rice, Rhodes improved the Owls five wins over the previous year and had a successful stint at Randolph-Macon for a decade.  Wade won 22 games in his second as head man at UT-Chattanooga.   • Monument 10K Winners, Kickers start the season with a tie

    The 16th annual Monument 10K wrapped up under frigid conditions.  Tyler McCandless won the men’s 10k with a time of 29 minutes 38 seconds.  He finished 1st and 2nd the last two years. On the women’s side, Kellyn Johnson Taylor repeated at 10K champion with a time of 33 minutes 20 seconds.   • VCU wins the A-10 Title and several state schools will play in the postseason.

    VCU beat Dayton 71-65 to win their first A-10 conference title since joining the league. Lane Casadonte has a report about the Rams win and their reaction on playing Ohio State in Portland on Thursday in the NCAA tournament. UVA didn’t get a number one seed..they received a number two seed in the East Region and will play Belmont Friday in Charlotte.     VCU advance to their 3rd straight A-10 final after a 93-73 win over Davidson.  The Rams will meet Dayton in the conference final.  You can see the A-10 Final on CBS-6 at 1pm.  Our Lane Casadonte recapped VCU 2nd win over the Wildcats this season. Randolph-Macon had their 25 game winning streak snapped in the Elite Eight by Virginia Wesleyan 49-47.  The Yellow Jackets finished with a record of 28-3.   • UVA eliminated in the ACC semis, VCU reaches the A-10 semifinals

    UVA was upset in the ACC semifinals by North Carolina 71-67.  Cavs’ guard Malcolm Brogdon led all scorers with 25, including a stretch of 12 straight points for Virginia.  Justin Jackson led three Tar Heels players in double figures with 22. The VCU Rams ended Richmond’s run in the A-10 tournament with a 70-67 win to advance to the conference semifinals for the 3rd year in a row.  Melvin Johnson hit five three pointers in scoring a team-high 23 points.  […]

  • L.C. Bird and Cosby Girls’ advance to State Finals

    The L.C. Bird Lady Skyhawks advance to the State Finals for the first time in school history by beating 55-48 over Thomas Edison in the 5A state semifinals.  The newly named Gatorade Virginia State Player of the Year Taja Cole scored 15 in the win.  They will meet Princess Anne in the finals.
