Mike Stone

Meteorologist

Mike Stone has 20 years of experience as a broadcast meteorologist. He works on various newscasts for WTVR CBS 6, including our Sunday morning and evening news, and the 7 p.m. weekday newscasts. He originally worked at WTVR in the late 1990s.

Since then, he has worked in Toledo, Cleveland and Pittsburgh. His first job was in Oklahoma, where he gained a lot of experience covering tornadoes and severe weather. Zach and Carrie also worked in Oklahoma, so our entire storm team has experience in tornado alley.

Mike graduated in 1993 from Penn State University, where he studied meteorology and communications. He has been certified by the American Meteorological Society (AMS) as a broadcast meteorologist, and also holds the National Weather Association (NWA) seal of approval.

In 2012, along with Zach & Carrie, Mike won an Emmy award for "best weather special or program" for the "CBS 6 Winter Weather Outlook: Before, During & After the Storm". Mike also won an Emmy for "best weekend newscast".

Mike attends many local, national and international weather conferences, where the latest technology and forecast techniques are presented. In 2009, he was one of only twenty broadcast meteorologists chosen to participate in a climate change conference in Chicago.

He is thrilled to be back in Virginia after a long absence. He has family in southeast Virginia as well as parts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
