Jerrita Patterson

Reporter

I joined the CBS 6 News team in December 2011, and I am over-the-top excited to return to Virginia after spending my college years here in the Commonwealth.

I am originally from Bowling Green, Kentucky, but grew-up in Nashville, Tennessee. My television career started in my hometown of Nashville, where I was an Associate Producer, Web Editor and Weekend Producer at WKRN-TV. Two years later I made the move across the country to Butte/Bozeman, Montana. I started as a Reporter, but was soon promoted to Morning Anchor at KXLF/KBZK-TV. After two years of frigid, arctic temperatures, I packed up leaving only my parka and snow boots behind and headed to Columbia, South Carolina. There I spent two years as a Reporter/Weekend Anchor at WACH Fox News. The next part of my journey would take me to Florence, Alabama, where I spent a year as a Bureau Reporter with WHNT-TV.

I have been honored to interview everyone from poet Nikki Giovanni, former NBA player Alonzo Mourning, to President Barack Obama. But my most memorable interview was with 101-year-old South Carolina native Donella Wilson, a self-proclaimed political buff. Ms. Wilson has been voting for decades and said she was proud to “exercise a right, once denied.”

I am a proud graduate from Hampton University (the real HU) and I am a member of the National Association of Black Journalists.

When I am not working, you will find me somewhere cheering on my Hampton Pirates, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, adding to my shoe-collection, at a local comedy club or working on maintaining my "Best Auntie" title with my precious niece, Brooklyn.

My motto is: "Never settle, until your dreams become reality. But never forget, your reality is someone else's dream."

I refer to myself as a “lifeaholic” and love living life to the fullest. I am blessed to live out a dream, which allows me to tell the stories affecting my community each and every day. When you see me out please feel free to stop me and tell me your story.
