RICHMOND, Va. --  A storm system will approach Virginia on Saturday.  Morning sunshine will be replaced with increasing clouds during the afternoon.  Highs will range from the upper 40s to the lower 50s.

Some showers or a wintry mix will move into western Virginia towards late afternoon and early evening.  This system will be fighting a lot of dry air, and this will limit the precipitation potential near and northeast of Richmond.  Richmond could see a shower by around midnight.

The rain will turn to a mix and some snow overnight for southwestern Virginia as lows drop into the lower 30s.  This precipitation will exit southern Virginia by around daybreak Sunday.

No accumulations are expected in central Virginia, a light coating is possible near South Hill to Farmville to Staunton.

Areas near and west of Danville and Lynchburg could see an inch or so of snow.  Roanoke & Blacksburg will see 4-8" of snow, where winter weather advisories and winter storm warnings are in effect.

Clouds will decrease Sunday afternoon with highs in the mid 40s to lower 50s.

Warmer air will return next week with highs in the 60s and 70s.
