RICHMOND, Va. --  Police are investigating after a woman reported being sexually assaulted by an Uber driver near the campus of VCU early Sunday morning.

A VCU Alert said the incident happened when Uber driver picked up a woman on the 1100 block of West Cary Street Sunday around 3:45 a.m.

VCU Police said the woman wanted to be dropped off on the 1100 block of West Marshall Street and during her ride, the University says the driver grabbed the woman's hand and forced it down the front of his pants and he then grabbed her breasts over her clothing.

Police are looking for the driver, who is described as a Middle Eastern male driving a silver four-door Toyota sedan with an Uber sticker on the window.

Students around campus were shocked by the news.

VCU Freshman Morgan McMinn said she frequently relies on Uber to get home.

"I think that riding an Uber may be inevitable sometimes," McMinn said. "Because you have to get home safe and you don't want to walk in the dark."

"We are looking into it and ready to work with police," Uber officials said in a statement.

The investigation is ongoing.
