PETERSBURG, Va. — A tractor trailer hauling approximately 20 thousand pounds of food product has overturned after a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 south in Petersburg.
The crash happened at approximately 1:20 p.m., just south of Washington Street (mile marker 52).
Virginia State Police say their preliminary investigation reveals the tractor trailer struck a Jeep with a trailer attached that was pulled over on the side of the road.
“After the tractor struck the vehicle, the driver lost control and the weight of the trailer forced the trailer to overturn on its side down an embankment,” said a State Police spokesperson.
There have been no injuries reported in connection with the crash.
“The on ramp from Wythe Street and Washington Street are blocked,” according to VDOT. The right and center lanes of Interstate 95 south are closed.
Cleanup is underway and expected to take several hours.
The crash is still under investigation.
