AMELIA COUNTY, Va. — Amelia County Public Schools have announced their schools will close Friday, December 22 as a cost saving measure.
The school system made the announcement in a recorded message to parents Wednesday.
A school official said the School Board made the decision as a cost saving measure and to allow additional time in preparation for the upcoming holidays.
Friday was originally scheduled to only be a half day for students, according to Superintendent Jack McKinley.
School employees, except essential personnel, do not have to report to work.
Holiday events and celebrations scheduled for the day will be rescheduled.
Basketball games for Friday evening will still take place as scheduled, according to a school official.
