HANOVER COUNTY, Va. – There is new information about the 45-year-old Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) instructor accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student at Patrick Henry High School.

Crime Insider sources said at least one of the alleged incidents took place on school property in a supply closet.

Walter Summerfield, who has a bond hearing slated for Friday afternoon, was charged with four counts of Indecent Liberties by a Custodian.

Summerfield was arrested Wednesday on the Class 6 felony, a Hanover County Sheriff's spokesman said.

The arrest came after an "extensive investigation," according to the sheriff's office.

Crime Insider sources said the alleged inappropriate sexual relationship with a female, who used to be a student at the school, began over spring break.

Summerfield joined the Patrick Henry NJROTC in 2016, according to the school's website.

School officials said Summerfield, who is also a Navy veteran, is on administrative leave without pay.

Summerfield is being held without bond at the Pamunkey Regional Jail.

Anyone with additional information was asked to call the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office at 804-365-6140 or Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000. Witnesses or students can send news tips here.
