RICHMOND, Va. – Police are searching for a man with a teardrop facial tattoo in connection to an attempted armed robbery and shooting in South Richmond.
The incident happened at approximately 1 a.m., on Tuesday, December 5, near Jefferson Davis Highway.
“An unknown male attempted to rob a male near the intersection of Ruffin Road and Columbia Street,” said a police spokesperson. “After the suspect brandished a handgun the victim ran away but was shot by the suspect. The suspect then fled the scene.”
The shooting victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries that non-life-threatening injuries.
Detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify the suspect in photos, captured at a nearby convenience store a few minutes before the shooting.
The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 20-30 years of age, 6’ tall and weighing approximately 145 pounds.
He has a tattoo on his forehead and a teardrop tattoo near his right eye. He may be driving a dark-colored four-door sedan, possibly a Ford Taurus or Mercury Sable, police said.
