STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — A Stafford County man has been arrested after deputies say he broke into his neighbor’s house drunk, wearing nothing but a bath robe.

Victor Merswin, 24, has been arrested and charged with burglary and possession of marijuana in connection with the December 7 incident.

Deputies responded to a report of a suspicious person at a residence in south Stafford at 3:20 a.m.

“The residents informed the deputy that an unknown male wearing a robe entered their home while they were sleeping,” said a sheriff’s office spokesperson. “The man identified himself as the residents’ neighbor and told them he was checking on them after hearing what he believed was the sound of a gunshot. The residents asked the man to leave and he complied with their request.”

The suspect, identified as Merswin, was found at a nearby residence. Deputies say he admitted to entering the home without the owners’ permission.

Deputies say they smelled an odor of alcohol coming from Merswin and they also discovered he was in possession of a substance consistent with marijuana.

“Throughout the encounter, the suspect was hostile and made numerous lewd comments to the deputies,” according to the spokesperson.

Merswin was arrested and transported to Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
