WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — The Hopewell Blue Devils ended a 14-year championship drought as they beat Heritage-Lynchburg 20-14 to win the Class 3 State Title for the first time since 2003.

Greg Cuffey threw for 240 and one touchdown as he played his final game in a Hopewell uniform in the stadium in which he will play College Football at William & Mary.

The Blue Devils defense held the Pioneers to just 51 yards passing and had another pick six this postseason.

For Ricky Irby, it’s his second state title.  He won his first back as an assistant to Marshall Parker on that 2003 team.
