DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. -- Members of the CBS 6 News team surprised two longtime viewers, Ernest and Bobbie Jordan of Dinwiddie, as part of the Month of Giving.

The couple said they have been watching the news on the South's First Television Station for decades.

Ernest, who  is in hospice care and was physically unable to put up a Christmas tree this year, loves holiday decorations.

So with the help of Union Bank and Trust and Capital Caring, senior reporter Wayne Covil, Jake Burns and Sandra Jones dropped by to surprise the pair.

Covil delivered and assembled a pre-lit Christmas tree while our friends from Capital Caring decorated the tree with ornaments.

"Thank you so much," Bobbie said. "It's a blessing."

The system also included a remote that allows Ernest to turn the lights on and off from his wheelchair.

And a little birdie told us that Ernest was a big fan of the Ettrick Deli, so the station also got him a gift certificate to the eatery.

Caregivers were excited to hear about that because they said he has not had much of an appetite as of late. So we can't wait to see what he picked out for delivery.

In addition, other members of the CBS 6 News family signed cards for Ernest.

"Ernest, I want to present you with these autographed cards from all of the CBS 6 staffers," Sandra Jones said. "We wish you and Bobbie a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year."

"Thank you all so much," Bobbie replied.

Every day through December, a CBS 6 team member will surprise someone in the community with a random act of kindness.

The CBS 6 Month of Giving is possible due to a partnership with Union Bank and Trust.
