RICHMOND, Va. -- Mary Galloway yearns for the day when she got to wait in line inside her post office in Richmond's East End.

The East End post office in Church Hill closed abruptly in April due to safety issues, and a temporary mobile post office replaced it.

"It's just inconvenient," Galloway said.

Many worried the post office would shut it down permanently.

After all, the 60-year-old building desperately needed repairs.

"It was built during the Eisenhower administration," the building's owner, Joshua Bilder with Sterling Bilder Development, said.

But, back in April, Bilder took full responsibility and promised the CBS 6 Problem Solvers he would make the necessary repairs, and Monday he showed off the changes.

"It was all stuff that was deferred maintenance," Bilder said.

Bilder said he repaired a leaking roof.

"Water was penetrating membrane of building," Bilder said.

And, he said he replaced 300 lights.

"Some of those lights were like original you know what I mean, like from the 50s," Bilder said.

He said the United States Postal Service still needs to finish moving back into the building, but he expects it to be open just in time for Christmas.

"It was unfortunate what happened, but I made a commitment through your interview, I made a commitment to the community, and I'm happy to be able to make good on that commitment," Bilder said.

"I'm happy and I know a whole lot of other people will be happy also," Galloway said.
