"Just a broad range of people wanted to help for the holidays,” said Scott Garnett, one of the founders of Building a Better RPS. "We replaced ceiling tiles, lightbulbs, did painting of doors, cleaned the outside, cleaned the playground. It was an awesome day."

Garnett says in a year and a half, the nonprofit has done about than $200,000 worth of work.

"It's all first impressions. As these kids left school Friday, the school was covered in leaves, a little overgrown, feeling a little tired.  And we were able to come in and completely transform it, so they come back Monday morning to what feels like a new school,” said Garnett. "I think psychologically for the teachers, admin, students they feel better about the place they are learning."
