ASHEVILLE, N.C. — At least a dozen people received text messages Wednesday telling them they had cobras underneath their homes and that there is a cobra epidemic in Asheville. Accompanying the fake alert was a pile of rattlesnakes, WLOS reported.

The scammer then asked each of the potential victims for $2,000 transfers into a bank account to remove them.

Of course, cobras aren’t found in North America. One asheville man recognized that and decided to have a little fun.

“I began asking him how the snakes are going to be removed and if they were going to be released to a natural habitat and making comments about, you know, who’s removing these snakes if I send the money and will he accept installments,” Asheville resident Ferrin Cole said.

News 13 tried contacting the scammer, but the number no longer worked.
