COLONIAL HEIGHTS, Va. -- More than 1,000 runners and walkers took to the streets of Colonial Heights Thanksgiving morning for the 6th annual Turkey Trot 5K.

Officials said the number of participants in race, which takes on Conduit Road, has grown each year.

And organizers said the money raised helps two very worthy causes.

“We allow each racer to choose a specific school that they would like $5 of their registration to be donated to. John Brandt with the Colonial Heights Chamber of Commerce. “And then also we make a donation this year to the Colonial Heights Food Pantry.”

Officials said the race drew runners from multiple states.
