RICHMOND, Va. -- A storm system will increase and thicken the clouds across the region on Saturday afternoon.  Most of the area will be dry during the day, but a few showers are possible across extreme northern Virginia.  Highs will be in the upper 50s and lower 60s.

  • Rain will be near the Interstate 81 corridor by around 10 pm, and then move into central Virginia closer to midnight.
  • We will see a few hours of rain Saturday night until around daybreak on Sunday.
  • For the metro, the main window for rain is from midnight to 6 a.m., but rain is most likely between 2 and 4 a.m.
  • Some rain will still be east of Richmond early in the morning, but should move out before 9 a.m.
  • We will see rapid clearing by mid to late morning.
  • Wind gusts in excess of 25 mph will be possible for much of the weekend.

As colder air moves in behind a cold front, accumulating snow is possible in the higher elevations of West Virginia and the border.

Monday will be sunny and cool.  Other than the potential for some rain Tuesday night into early Wednesday, the bulk of the holiday travel weather will be decent through Friday.
