RICHMOND, Va. — Storms sparked multiple severe thunderstorm warnings and brought heavy rain, large hail and gusty winds Saturday in parts of Central Virginia.

In fact, tennis ball-sized hail was reported in Jetersville in Amelia County and hen egg-sized hail was reported across the Richmond Metro area.

The scattered thunderstorms were triggered as a cold front and some energy approached from the west.

The widely scattered storms developed near Interstate 81 in western Virginia and then turned more numerous as they tracked eastward into central Virginia.  Storms are also possible Sunday afternoon.
