PETERSBURG, Va. -- Police did not travel far to arrest a man accused of robbing a Petersburg bank Monday.

Joseph L. France walked into the BB&T bank on South Crater Road before 11 a.m. and handed the teller a note that demanded a specific amount of money, according to police. That amount was $500, police said.

After robbing the bank, police said France walked down the street to Taco Bell.

There he stood in line and ordered a drink.

When he walked out of the fast food restaurant, a Petersburg Police officer noticed France's suspicious behavior and approached. France ran.

"He was seen leaving the Taco Bell with just a drink while officers were canvassing. He ran upon the officers approach and he was quickly caught," a Petersburg Police spokesperson said. "He stated to the officers that he did something 'stupid.'"

France, 65, told police he robbed the bank and changed clothes behind the Arby's located between the bank and Taco Bell.
